May 20, 1999 to May 20, 2008 - 9 years married!

We are going to take the time now to reflect back on our blissful wedding day. We've added clips and pics to go along. We'll put both our comments and thoughts in:
JEN: Perhaps it was because of how crazy in love Johnny was with me, but our life together began with quite a start.
JOHNNY: I remember a lovely day and a lovely bride. Anything else (including that which my wife claimed happened) may or may not be true.
JEN: I remember scheduling our marriage date in the Bountiful temple weeks in advance. A cute little lady on the phone went through the schedule of what to expect and explained to me that the most important document to remember on our wedding day was our marriage license which I put Johnny in charge of.
JOHNNY: I think the most important thing to remember was our love for each other.
JEN:
Johnny was at my house with my family the night before our wedding. He kept saying things like "What are you worried about?" when referring to our certificate and "Of course I'll remember it".
JOHNNY: I think the most important thing to remember was that we would be spending eternity together.
JEN: Our last words were Johnny saying he WOULD bring it and make it there ON time. I decided I shouldn't worry...after all I would be with this wonderful guy through eternity. Let's start letting him take care of things now.
JOHNNY: I remember more than our last words...rrrrRRRRRrrrr...
JEN: When we get to the temple the next morning with my family, I first see Johnny's mom Teri. She apologetically informs me that the marriage license is back home. Johnny forgot it and was at the temple desk trying to get them to make an exception.
JOHNNY: Temple workers do not accept bribes.
JEN: We waited with our guests (at least an extra two hours) as Johnny's Uncle Ben, turned around to make the trip back from Bountiful to Corinne to Bountiful to get the marriage license.
JOHNNY: All the more time to look in each other's eyes.
JEN: We were married and sealed for time and all eternity at approximately 1:00pm Mountain Standard Time. We were both dressed in all white with family and friends gathered. It was a special time. After Johnny kissed me across the alter, he double raised his eye brows in a "woo-woo" sort of way and smiled. This got a chuckle from everyone in the room.
JOHNNY: I remember standing under the crystal chandelier and looking in mirrors placed on both walls that gave the reflected look of eternity. My wife was beautiful. It was a perfect ceremony. Take the "W" away from my Wife. Add an "L" and she becomes my "Life"!
JEN: After the temple, we had a wedding luncheon in Salt Lake. We were now running late. Everyone headed off to get to the luncheon and Johnny and I stayed behind with the video lady to get a few Temple ground video shots.
JOHNNY: It ended up being a full-length motion picture and took us another two hours to complete. She kept making us hold hands and kiss (not that I minded...in fact I kept asking for several additional shots...the angle was just not right...rrrrRRRRRrrrr...)
JEN: We never made it to the luncheon. By the time we arrived, everyone was gone. Both our families and extended families went and ate without us and I am sure you can imagine the rumors that spread. To this day we still hear the stories of Johnny's great aunts telling of why the bride and groom "never showed up".
JOHNNY: Sometimes I claim the rumors were true.
JEN: I started crying as we pulled away to go to our reception in Brigham City. Johnny just said "Ah-Oh, I'm not suppose to make you cry on your wedding day." Then he got his half smile and looked me in the eyes. We started to laugh...a little. We arrived at my Sherratt grandparents just as people were lining up for the reception (about 6:00pm).
JOHNNY: It was a wonderful warm spring night to have our reception. The sun was just setting. I remember the birds and crickets chirping and the blue and red flower decorations were all set up nicely and my bride was beautiful.
JEN: The flowers were actually yellow and purple.
JOHNNY: After greeting over 2 million people, we cut the wedding cake and threw the flowers. It was close to midnight before we were ready to finally leave. Our plan was to go to the Bear Lake cabin to spend the night and then on to Jackson Hole, WY. We got as far as Logan (30 minutes away) before Jen realized she had forgotten something...something I considered even more important than ten wedding certificates...
JEN: I forgot my birth control pills.
JOHNNY: Good-bye honeymoon night.
JEN: I did remember reading the pills warning page that says that you can't go a night without them. We stopped (JOHNNY: Immediately.) and I called my mom to tell her I was at the grocery store and what aisle would some pills be on?
JOHNNY: I heard hysterical laughing on the other end of the phone.
JEN: Mom said that these pills only come from my doctor.
JOHNNY: Back in the car and back to Brigham to grab the pills then back on our way to Bear Lake. We arrived at the cabin at 2:00am frazzled, red-eyed and looking about the worst possible for a honeymoon night.
JEN: Johnny opened the front door to the cabin and offered to carry me across the thresh-hold. I mumbled something and sank into his arms. I feel asleep and woke when he set me on the couch.
JOHNNY: Don't worry, the next part needs no censoring.
JEN: "Go bring our bags in Honey. I'll just wait here." The door shut and I heard Johnny's steps down to the car and Johnny's steps back up from the car. The door swung back open. All he had was a pair of shoes in his hands. "aaa-Hun" he said, "Did you happen to grab our bags..." He had forgotten to put our bags in the car at my parents house.
JOHNNY: I told Jen then and have reminder her frequently over the years that we didn't need our clothes.
JEN: Thus started our married life for eternity. Two weeks later we took our true honeymoon to Bali, Indonesia which went much much better. We look back and laugh now. I feel so lucky to be married to the most talented, handsome, wonderful man in the world! I am so blessed to have him in my life and I wouldn't trade our wedding day for the world!!
JOHNNY: I consider that day, the first test of our marriage. A test that we passed together. Give me another nine years just like these past nine have been and I'll be a happy and blessed man! I love my wifey!

A Good Cook!!

So about a week ago in school Maddy's class had a Mother's Tea. I was surprised because she was chosen to read what she had written about me out loud in front of everyone. For any of you who know Maddy...this is a BIG deal. She did a great job and wrote about how I make the BEST spaghetti. I sat there thinking..."Wow, now that is something I didn't even know I was good at!" As we rode home in the car I asked..."Maddy? I make good spaghetti?" Her reply..."Yeah, you know the yellow kind that is in a bowl like soup." I then figured out that she was referring to TOP RAMEN!! "Top Ramen," I said. "YES!" she shouts. "TOP RAMEN!" So if anyone would like some good Top Ramen...you know who to come to!! ha ha!

Some amazing mothers...

My mom: How do you even describe how thankful you are for your very own mom! She is such a wonderful mom and has been such a great example to me of so many things. I don't think I could have made it this far without her influence. She has taught me endless lessons just by watching her. I still can't go more than a couple days between talking to her. I am so grateful for the mom she is to me and the grandma she is to my kids. I couldn't ask for anything better.

Teri Ferry: The greatest mother in law to be found! I feel so fortunate to have in her in our lives and the lives of my children. They adore her. Teri is the kind of person who would do anything for us. I remember when I first started teaching school and all i wanted in my classroom was a reading tree. Teri spent HOURS creating my tree for me and it looked like something straight from Disneyland. She is so talented. I also know that I can go to her for any advice and she has it for me and our family. She is an amazing person and a wonderful mother.

Grandma Suzie: She is an amazing person. She has so much love for everyone around her. I love hearing her stories and learning from each of them. She gives us so many memories of ancestors, faith, and helps us to create our own as well. I can still remember one of the first times going to the cabin and playing cards until at the earliest 2 am with Grandma Ferry. She is a wonderful grandma and person!!

My Grandma Sherratt. We were lucky to always live by my grandma. Each of us got so excited each time we saw her coming...I still do! I still remember taking walks up there every Sunday to visit with her. She would let us use her dishes to dig up her dirt and make mud dinners. She sat through endless hours of dance and piano recitals for all of us grandchildren. She knew how to make you feel important. An amazing grandma.

My grandma Merrell..she was my kindergarten teacher. I felt so lucky for that! I remember her summer slumber parties. She would have all the grandkids sleep out on her patio one night each summer and then make us porridge for breakfast. We loved it! She taught us so many valuable lessons. I feel so fortunate for her influence.

Grandma Smith- You just want to be around her. She is always so much fun to visit. She has something thoughtful and fun planned for everyone involved. Maddy loves going over there to have her read her stories and still talks about a book she heard on her lap long ago. She is always one to have fun with the kids. Last time we visited I think she climbed on the four wheeler and took JY riding. You just love being around her because her spirit rubs off on you! This is where Johnny gained all his music skills. What talent!!

HAPPY MOTHER's DAY!!

Gib has fun at the petting zoo

I just had to add the clip of Gib loving the petting zoo. Only I don't think he got much petting in. When I arrived to see him he was doing more of a chasing down the poor chickens then anything. Pretty funny!

JY's Big Day

Ocean Alive in Room 105
Mrs Gracia and JY
Mrs. Guerrero and JY
Building boats
Building boats at open house

JY has been non stop talking these days about his open house at preschool. It is his big day to show off all his stuff and get his family to come and see where he goes. It was fun to see the little jobs posted...napkin passer, line leader, bell ringer, door opener. He also was excited to get his turn to show off just as he got to see Maddy do her two years at this preschool. He kept counting down the days and each morning as he woke up he asked...is it open house yet?

The school is the greatest ever. They can start out there when they are 3 and can continue for a 4 year old program too. It is a First Presbyterian Preschool and so sometimes he comes home singing some great Bible songs he learns. He doesn't learn gospel or anything...just fun educational stuff and great values. This year his classroom theme was "The sea is alive in room 105" When you walked in they had turned it into a little ocean. Jellyfish hung from the ceilings, seashells were scattered over the tables and seahorses, whales, turtles, sea captains and you name it covered the walls. The kids had made everything themselves...the parents hadn't been allowed to see in the room for the past few weeks. It was a great surprise. He has the best teachers...Mrs. Guerrero and Mrs. Gracia.

They had made a cute All About Me book that the kids had answered questions to. Great things such as 'How much does your mom weigh...1 pound (JY's answer), Where is your favorite place to go? My daddy's work, What do you want to be when you grow up? A fireman. Cute!

Then we all got to enjoy the little carnival like activities they have going on at the same time.

Snow Angels...california style

So I should know by now that quiet children for long periods of time usually means...TROUBLE. It never ceases to amaze me the great things they do. This time it was the paper shredder. All was quiet and when I hollared up to them it was "don't worry mommy we are just having a party" then JY started shouting at me that he was making snow angels???? This had me concerned. I went to check and sure enough. A party was going on and he DID have snow angels. Gib found the paper shredder and unloaded it around the floor. He took great pleasure in making JY snow hair on his head. Then it started to get thrown all over the place and JY did get to make his snow angels...california style. Mads joined in and they even convinced us to play a game of Twister to end it all. What a party!!
